Nigerian Players Abroad

Valencia set to release twelve players this summer including one Super Eagles star

Valencia CF is bracing for a dramatic summer transformation, with up to twelve players potentially departing the club—including Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq, whose loan spell at Mestalla may not be made permanent, according to Spanish outlet eldesmarque.

The squad recently gathered for an end-of-season farewell lunch near the Ciudad Deportiva in Bétera, marking the conclusion of a campaign where Valencia comfortably secured La Liga survival and flirted with European qualification until the penultimate match. However, despite the relative stability on the pitch, a major squad reshuffle is now imminent.

Loan Players Facing Uncertain Futures
Among the players set to exit are five loanees whose futures at Valencia remain in doubt, as the club is unlikely to trigger purchase clauses for several of them due to performance concerns or prohibitive costs. This group includes:

Max Aarons (Norwich City), Iván Jaime (Famalicão), Rafa Mir (Sevilla), Enzo Barrenechea (Juventus) and Umar Sadiq (Real Sociedad)

While Sadiq and Barrenechea are considered the most valuable of the loan contingent, Valencia’s reluctance to secure them permanently stems from financial constraints. Sadiq, in particular, has shown flashes of promise, but the club remains hesitant to meet Real Sociedad’s asking price amid broader budgetary considerations.

The summer exodus will also see the departure of several permanent players, including long-serving goalkeeper Jaume Doménech, whose contract expires, and Giorgi Mamardashvili, who is expected to leave in a big-money transfer. These moves signal a strategic shift as Valencia looks to rebuild under financial limitations.

For Umar Sadiq, the coming weeks will be decisive. Valencia must weigh his contributions this season against the cost of retaining him, with his future likely hinging on the club’s transfer budget and alternative attacking targets. Should Valencia decline to sign him permanently, the 26-year-old forward will return to Real Sociedad, where his prospects remain uncertain.

With a new sporting project taking shape, Valencia’s decisions in the transfer market will define their trajectory for next season. While the potential departure of players like Sadiq may disappoint some fans, the club’s focus appears to be on financial prudence and squad restructuring—a necessary step as they aim to compete more sustainably in La Liga.

As the transfer window heats up, all eyes will be on Mestalla to see how Valencia navigates this pivotal summer of change.
