Super Falcons have returned to Nigeria following their recent international friendlies in Cameroon as uncertainty continues over the scheduling of the next Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2026).
The tournament, organised by the Confederation of African Football, was originally expected to take place in Morocco from 17 March to 3 April 2026.
However, with less than two weeks to the proposed start date, CAF has yet to officially confirm the tournament schedule or provide further details about preparations.
Several key pre-tournament processes including media accreditation and formal announcements have also not been publicly confirmed.
The Super Falcons had initially planned to travel directly from Cameroon to Morocco after their two-legged friendly matches as part of preparations for the competition.
But those plans were shelved due to the uncertainty surrounding the tournament.

A source close to the team said the squad was instructed to return home after the friendlies once it became clear that the tournament schedule remained unresolved.
The source added that some players were excused from the trip once the change of plans became clear, as the team no longer needed to maintain a full training squad.
As of now, CAF has not issued an official statement clarifying the status of the competition, which also serves as Africa’s qualification pathway to the next FIFA Women’s World Cup.
