“We shouldn’t give up” – Ex-Portsmouth forward support Super Eagles to qualify for 2026 FIFA World Cup

Former Portsmouth forward, John Chukwudi Utaka, said that Super Eagles should not give up the fight not on their chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup

Utaka, who scored six goals in 44 caps for Nigeria, revealed the Super Eagles should not be in a position where they’re struggling to qualify, but with just four games left to play, the ex-RC Lens man urged Chelle’s men to not give up.

“With the kind of talent we have, we shouldn’t be in this position. We need to come together and stay focused on achieving our World Cup dream. We must be determined like other countries.

“In football, anything can happen. We shouldn’t give up. I still believe we can qualify, but it all depends on how we approach the games ahead,” the 43-year-old said in an interview with Brila.

Eric Chelle’s side have won just one of their six World Cup qualifying games, and with four fixtures left, their chances of playing in the biggest football tournament next year are minute.

Nigeria returns to competitive action in September, taking on Rwanda on the first day of the month before travelling to face South Africa a week later.

To stand a chance, the three-time AFCON Champions need to win all of their remaining games while getting help from elsewhere, hoping the sides ahead of them in the group drop points.
