Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu has declared that Nigeria are fully focused on lifting the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) trophy when they take on hosts Morocco in Saturday’s final in Rabat.
The tactician expressed his satisfaction after his side’s 2-1 semi-final win over defending champions South Africa in Casablanca, stressing that the Falcons are determined to finish the tournament on a high.
“We thank God for making it to the final,” Madugu told NFF Communications.
“I want to assure you that we are not going to relent or take our eyes off the ball. Our focus is on lifting the trophy in Rabat on Saturday.”

Nigeria’s win against Banyana Banyana secured their passage to a record-extending 10 WAFCON final and set up a much-anticipated showdown with the 2022 runners-up and tournament hosts Morocco.

Madugu attributed his side’s success to tactical discipline and divine grace, while also reaffirming that every match in the competition has been approacùhed with a unique strategy.
“We always study our opponents and decide what tactics would best serve our purpose. We did that against South Africa, and it paid off. We’ll apply the same focus and planning against Morocco.”
The Super Falcons remain unbeaten at WAFCON 2024 and are targeting their 10th continental crown, having last won the competition in 2018.

Saturday’s final will take place at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, with kickoff set for 8pm. local time.
It also marks the second major final in under two years where a Nigerian national team will face a host nation, after the Super Eagles lost to Côte d’Ivoire at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final in Abidjan.

The clash will revive memories of the dramatic 2022 WAFCON semi-final, where Morocco defeated Nigeria on penalties after the Falcons played much of the match with nine players.
