Getafe president Ángel Torres says the club may be left with no choice but to sell Nigerian midfielder Christantus Uche before Monday’s transfer deadline.
The 22-year-old joined from Nigeria for just €500,000 last summer and impressed with four goals and six assists in 33 La Liga games. His tenacity and creativity made him a key figure for José Bordalás’ side.
But Getafe have been unable to register seven first-team players due to La Liga’s financial rules, fielding academy players from the bench in all three league matches so far.

With interest from clubs including Wolves, Brentford, Everton and Serie A sides, Uche could be the one sacrificed to ease the club’s financial burden.

Speaking before Friday’s clash with Valencia, Torres said:
“We need to sell a player to be able to register the seven players we have left. It could be Uche or it could be someone else… We’ll decide tomorrow. It’s going to be a tough weekend.”

Uche is valued at around €20m, a figure well within reach for Premier League sides, making his exit increasingly likely.
