Why Manchester United ended all hopes of signing Victor Osimhen

Victor Osimhen’s Premier League dream takes a hit as Manchester United pull out of the race to sign the Nigerian striker.

Victor Osimhen’s long-anticipated move to Manchester United has collapsed, with respected journalist David Ornstein confirming the Nigerian striker is no longer part of the club’s summer transfer plans.

Osimhen, who has enjoyed a blistering season on loan at Galatasaray—scoring 30 goals in 34 appearances according to Transfermarkt was once considered a marquee target for the Red Devils.

However, the club has now cooled their interest, despite earlier reports suggesting they were prepared to activate his €75 million release clause from Napoli.

“Despite reports you might be reading, he is not on the agenda for Manchester United,” Ornstein posted on X. “They would have other options… perhaps internal solutions such as Rasmus Hojlund.”

This development signals a broader shift in Manchester United’s approach to the transfer market under new sporting leadership. With Omar Berrada overseeing operations, the club appears to be prioritizing sustainability and development over high-profile spending.

Concerns over European qualification and the financial implications that come with it are also believed to be influencing transfer decisions.

Rather than pursuing blockbuster deals, United may look to build around younger, in-house talents like 21-year-old Hojlund, who remains a long-term investment despite scoring just eight goals in his debut Premier League season.

Arsenal Lead Race as Osimhen Eyes Premier League Switch

While Manchester United exit the race, other clubs are circling. Arsenal have reportedly re-established contact with Osimhen’s representatives and are seen as one of the frontrunners to secure his signature this summer.

Mikel Arteta is understood to be targeting a proven centre-forward to strengthen the Gunners’ title ambitions.

Osimhen’s physicality, work rate, and clinical finishing make him an ideal candidate to fill that role. The club also continues to monitor other options including Viktor Gyokeres, Alexander Isak, and Benjamin Sesko.

Osimhen’s Future: Wide Open

Osimhen has made no secret of his desire to play in the Premier League, and while a dream move to Old Trafford is now off the table, the door remains wide open for a top-flight switch in England.

Still owned by Napoli, the 26-year-old’s next destination is likely to be one of the major storylines of the upcoming transfer window.

Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are also reportedly interested, and his value continues to rise following a standout campaign in Turkey.
