Why Victor Osimhen may not leave Napoli this summer

Victor Osimhen praises Galatasaray fans and urges focus after a vital 2–0 win over Trabzonspor puts the Turkish Super Lig title within reach.

Victor Osimhen’s anticipated summer departure from Napoli is now in doubt as Europe’s top clubs hesitate to meet his €75 million release clause. Despite a sensational loan spell at Galatasaray—where he netted 36 goals and provided eight assists in 40 appearances—the Nigerian striker’s future remains uncertain, with no club yet willing to trigger his hefty buyout fee.

Osimhen, 26, had pushed for a Napoli exit last summer but found no takers at his valuation, forcing a temporary move to Turkey. His explosive form in Istanbul reignited interest from Premier League heavyweights like Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Nottingham Forest, as well as Paris Saint-Germain and Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal. However, with the transfer window heating up, none have stepped forward with an acceptable offer.

Reports from ESPN suggest Osimhen turned down Juventus in favor of a Premier League move, but that prospect now looks increasingly unlikely. Italian outlet Il Mattino claims Napoli may have to lower their asking price, as rival clubs explore cheaper alternatives.

Arsenal are prioritizing Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres, Manchester United are eyeing Wolves’ Matheus Cunha and Ipswich’s Liam Delap, while Chelsea—though a possible destination—are yet to make formal contact and are also considering Brighton’s João Pedro.

Despite the transfer uncertainty, Osimhen’s loan stint has been a resounding success. He played a pivotal role in Galatasaray’s domestic double, lifting both the Turkish Super Lig and Super Cup. Yet, with Napoli unwilling to budge on their valuation and rival clubs exploring other options, the Super Eagles star faces an anxious wait to see where—or if—he will move this summer.
