As Leicester City brace for life back in the Championship, one of their key players, Wilfred Ndidi, could be heading for the exit door.
The Nigerian midfielder, who has been a consistent performer despite injury setbacks this season, has a tempting €9 million release clause in his contract—a figure that could spark a summer bidding war.
Former Leicester loanee and pundit Lee Hendrie believes Ndidi’s versatility and Premier League experience make him an attractive target for newly promoted clubs and lower-tier top-flight sides.
“He’s the kind of player who can anchor a midfield or push forward—a rare balance that many teams need,”Hendrie told Football League World.”At that price, it’s a smart investment.”

Ndidi, 28, has been a loyal servant to the Foxes since joining from Genk in 2017, but with Leicester’s financial constraints and recent struggles, a fresh challenge seems inevitable. The club’s relegation has already triggered speculation over several stars, and Ndidi’s situation is no different.
Hendrie, who briefly wore Leicester colors in 2008, sympathizes with the club’s predicament but admits holding onto the Super Eagles enforcer will be tough.
“Losing him would be a blow, but Leicester’s rebuild might require sacrifices. For Ndidi, this could be the right time to move on.”

With the transfer window approaching, all eyes are on whether a Premier League side—or ambitious Championship contender—will trigger his clause and secure the services of one of Africa’s most reliable midfielders.

While Leicester would prefer to keep Ndidi for their Championship campaign, the financial realities of relegation may force their hand.
The €9 million clause represents a fair fee for a player of his caliber, and the club could reinvest that money into rebuilding their squad.
