Zamalek set for major dugout change weeks after dumping Jose Peseiro

Zamalek is set to appoint Belgian coach Yannick Ferrera on a two-year deal after parting ways with Portuguese manager Jose Peseiro in May.

Egyptian giants Zamalek SC are set to name Yannick Ferrera as their new head coach on a two-year deal, following the departure of Portuguese tactician Jose Peseiro in May 2025.

The 43-year-old Belgian is expected to land in Cairo on Wednesday, accompanied by five technical staff whose contracts are currently being finalised, according to African football journalist Micky Jnr.

Ferrera brings with him experience across Europe and the Middle East, having managed clubs including Standard Liège, Al Fateh, Al Riyadh, and Omonia Nicosia. His reputation for tactical discipline and youth development is seen as a key factor in Zamalek’s decision.

He takes over after a difficult 2024/2025 campaign for the White Knights, who finished third in the Egyptian Premier League, a full 11 points behind champions Al Ahly, and suffered a CAF Confederation Cup semi-final exit at the hands of South Africa’s Stellenbosch FC.

The decision to part ways with Peseiro came after a 2-2 league draw with National Bank, capping a disappointing record of seven wins in 17 matches.
