Super Eagles receive injury boost ahead of Zimbabwe clash

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle names 12 NPFL players for the Unity Cup where Nigeria will face Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago

Super Eagles of Nigeria have received a significant boost ahead of their crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe, as head coach Eric Chelle has confirmed that all players in his squad are fully fit and ready for action.

Concerns had been raised over the availability of star striker Victor Osimhen and right-back Bright Osayi-Samuel after both failed to complete Nigeria’s 2-0 win over Rwanda last Friday.

However, Chelle has reassured fans that there are no injury worries in the camp.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Monday, the Malian tactician dismissed any fitness concerns, stating:

“No problem; all the players are fine and ready for the match.”

Osimhen and Osayi-Samuel Cleared for Action

Osimhen was instrumental in Nigeria’s victory over Rwanda, scoring twice in the first half to secure the win.

However, the Galatasaray striker appeared fatigued and was substituted in the 77th minute, with Genk’s Tolu Arokodare making his international debut in his place.

Osayi-Samuel, who delivered a solid performance at right-back, was forced off late in the game with what seemed to be a dead leg. With Ola Aina already withdrawn, Chelle was forced to deploy midfielder Alhassan Yusuf in an unfamiliar defensive role for the closing minutes.

Despite these concerns, both players have now been declared fit and available for selection, providing a significant boost for Nigeria’s hopes of securing another crucial victory.

Super Eagles Aim for Key Win in Uyo

Nigeria heads into Tuesday’s encounter at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo looking to strengthen their position in Group C.

Currently sitting fourth with six points, a win would propel the Super Eagles to nine points, keeping them firmly in contention for a World Cup spot.

Zimbabwe, meanwhile, sits at the bottom of the table with just three points and will be desperate to revive their qualification campaign.

Elsewhere in Group C, leaders South Africa (10 points) will take on second-placed Benin Republic (eight points) in Abidjan, while fifth-placed Lesotho faces Rwanda in Kigali.
