Official: Hull City sign Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi on two-year deal

Semi Ajayi six-year stint at West Brom may be over this summer. With his contract expiring and the club's promotion hopes fading.

Hull City has officially confirmed the signing of Nigerian international defender Semi Ajayi on a two-year deal, with an option for a third year.

The 31-year-old centre-back joins the Championship side from West Bromwich Albion, where he spent six solid years, making 177 appearances and scoring 13 goals.

Ajayi, who has made 43 appearances for the Super Eagles, becomes the seventh Nigerian to represent Hull City, following in the footsteps of legendary players like Jay Jay Okocha, who was the first Nigerian to don the Hull City shirt.

The defender’s signing is a significant coup for Hull City, as he brings experience, leadership, and Championship know-how to the team.

Born in South East London, Ajayi began his career at Charlton Athletic before moving to Arsenal, Cardiff, and Rotherham United, where he made over 100 appearances. He scored his first Premier League goal in a draw against Liverpool at Anfield.

Ajayi joined West Bromwich Albion in 2019 and quickly established himself as a key figure in their backline, helping the team win promotion to the Premier League in the 2019-2020 season.

Ajayi expressed his excitement about joining Hull City, saying, “I’m really excited. The club’s vision was sold to me by the sporting director and head of recruitment.

When I heard it, I couldn’t wait to get involved. I bring experience, leadership, and Championship know-how.” He added, “We all know how tough the Championship is, and I’m eager to bring some of my experience to the group. I’m coming in with a lot of hunger to prove myself again and do as well as I can as a Hull City player.”
