Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre has issued a warning to fans about impersonators using her name online.
Speaking to Ademola Victor after Nigeria’s 3-0 victory over Tunisia in their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2024) Group B opener on Sunday in Casablanca, Plumptre called on supporters to stay alert and avoid falling victim to fraudulent pages pretending to be her, especially on Facebook.
“There’s a Facebook account that hasn’t been taken down, but it’s promising people money and making false claims,” she said.
“That’s not me. I have a personal Facebook account that I don’t even use—I created it years ago. If people want to follow me, I’m on Instagram. I don’t really use Twitter much. But any Facebook account is not me.”

Plumptre, who has been part of the Super Falcons setup since 2021, took a moment to thank Nigerian fans for embracing her from the beginning of her international journey.
“I’m just so grateful for all the support since I joined the team. I was definitely welcomed with open arms when I first came in, and even now, I still feel the love,” she said.
“My message to them is: keep supporting us—we feel the love, and we’ll do all we can to bring success to the team.”

The Leicester-born defender was instrumental in helping Nigeria keep a clean sheet against Tunisia and looked composed at the heart of defence alongside her teammates.

Looking ahead to the rest of the tournament, Plumptre said the team is focused and ready to raise their performance levels, despite a strong start.
“It’s the first game of the tournament, so there were a lot of nerves and excitement,” she admitted. “But to come out with three goals and a clean sheet is a nice way to start.”

“We’ll take this as a stepping stone into the next match. Of course, we’ll review what we did well and where we need to improve, because both defensively and in attack, we hold ourselves to high standards.”
The Super Falcons, nine-time champions, are gunning for a record-extending 10th WAFCON title. Their next test comes on Thursday against Botswana.
