Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre says the Nigerian squad is fully prepared, unified, and ready to face Zambia in Friday’s WAFCON 2024 quarterfinal clash.
Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated encounter, Plumptre emphasised the strength of team chemistry and morale in the Falcons’ camp.
“Preparations are going well. We’ve had more rest between games compared to the group stage. The atmosphere is calm but exciting, and everyone’s in really good spirits,” she said.

Nigeria head into the quarterfinals unbeaten and yet to concede a goal, having topped Group B with wins over Tunisia and Botswana, followed by a goalless draw with Algeria.
Zambia, meanwhile, finished second in Group A after beating DR Congo and Senegal, and drawing 2-2 with Morocco.
The Copper Queens have scored six goals in the competition, with lethal forwards Barbra Banda and Racheal Kundananji responsible for all of them.
But Plumptre believes the Falcons’ defensive organisation and team unity will make the difference.
“We take pride in defending as a team. It’s not just about one player; we all work together, whether it’s scoring or protecting the goal,” she said.

“We don’t prepare for two players; we prepare for Zambia as a whole. They’re dangerous, but so are we from multiple areas of the pitch.”
Plumptre also praised Banda, who missed the 2022 tournament due to a gender verification ban, but has bounced back as one of Africa’s top forwards.
“I respect her a lot. What she went through was tough, and the way she’s come back with a smile and incredible performances is inspiring.”

Having made the WAFCON group stage Best XI, Plumptre credited the collective quality of the Nigerian squad rather than her individual performance.
“Honestly, I was surprised. But it’s a reflection of the whole team. Playing around these incredible women brings out the best in me.”

With a record-extending 10th WAFCON title in sight, the Super Falcons are focused, hungry, and seeking redemption in Casablanca.
“We have one heart, one beat,” Plumptre concluded. “And we’re ready to fight together.”
