AfroBasket 2025: D’Tigress beat Senegal to reach final, stay unbeaten in Africa for 10 years

Nigeria’s women’s national basketball team, D’Tigress, advanced to the final of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket following a 75–68 victory over Senegal in a closely contested semifinal in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The result extends Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s basketball, maintaining an unbeaten run on the continent that dates back to 2015.

Nigeria started strong, leading 22–17 at the end of the first quarter and maintaining a six-point advantage at halftime. However, Senegal turned the game around in the third quarter, outscoring Nigeria 21–9 to take a 58–52 lead heading into the final period.

D’Tigress responded in the fourth quarter with a decisive run, outscoring Senegal 23–10 to seal the win and reach their sixth consecutive AfroBasket final.

The victory also confirms Nigeria’s qualification for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournaments, alongside fellow semifinalists Senegal, Mali, and South Sudan.

Nigeria had previously reached the semifinal after defeating Cameroon 83–47 in the quarterfinals.

The AfroBasket final will take place on Sunday, with Nigeria set to face Mali.
