Rivers United rise as CAF confirms latest five-year club standings

Nigeria’s Rivers United have climbed to 22nd in CAF’s updated five-year club rankings after making it to group stage of the CAF Champions League.

The rankings, released after the 2025/26 group stage, measure performances in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup over the past five seasons.

Rivers United’s total of 15 points reflects steady recent participation and progression on the continent, placing them inside Africa’s top 25 clubs.

At the top of the standings, Egypt’s Al Ahly lead with 66 points, continuing their dominance in African competitions.

South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns follow with 58 points, while Tunisia’s Espérance Sportive de Tunis sit third on 53.

Morocco’s RS Berkane (52 points) and Egypt’s Pyramids FC (48) complete the top five.

Sudan’s Al Hilal and Egypt’s Zamalek SC are level on 39 points, just ahead of Tanzania’s Simba SC on 38.

Algeria’s USM Alger and Tanzania’s Young Africans round out the top 10.

Further down the list are Morocco’s Wydad AC and AS FAR, Angola’s Petro de Luanda, DR Congo’s TP Mazembe, and South Africa’s Orlando Pirates.

CAF’s five-year ranking system plays a key role in determining seeding and shaping continental allocations.
