Werder Bremen have been hit by another injury concern after defender Felix Agu suffered a fresh setback just weeks after returning from a lengthy lay-off.
The 26-year-old had recently resumed competitive action following four months out with a syndesmosis ligament injury that required surgery. The problem ruled him out of several key fixtures, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Agu featured for 28 minutes against Freiburg and then played 65 minutes in Bremen’s meeting with Bayern Munich as he gradually rebuilt match fitness.
However, he was forced to withdraw during the warm-up before Bremen’s trip to St. Pauli at the Millerntor-Stadion after feeling discomfort.
Subsequent examinations confirmed a muscle injury in his adductor area, with an MRI scan at the Paracelsus Clinic verifying the diagnosis.

Head coach Daniel Thioune admitted the timing of the injury is a concern.
“In the situation we are in right now, any failure weighs even more heavily,” Thioune said.
“Felix had only just returned from his ankle injury. We hope he will be available to us again as soon as possible.”
