Matías Almeyda has said Nigeria striker Akor Adams is in a positive mental space ahead of Sevilla FC’s crucial La Liga clash with FC Barcelona on Saturday.
The Super Eagles forward recently ended a frustrating goal drought by scoring in Sevilla’s 1–1 draw with Rayo Vallecano at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium.
Before that strike, Adams had endured a difficult spell in front of goal, failing to score in matches against RCD Mallorca, Girona FC, Deportivo Alavés, Getafe CF and city rivals Real Betis.
Speaking ahead of the match, Almeyda praised the forward’s attitude and emphasised the motivation within the squad.
“Well, what I can tell is that he’s doing well. Like all his teammates, he’s motivated, aware of what’s at stake. Everything we’re playing for is very close, and everyone is important,” Almeyda said.
“And whenever the strikers score, that’s what we need. So I’d say that after scoring a goal, he must be very motivated. Especially with the opponent we’re going to face.”
The 26-year-old has been an important figure for Sevilla this season, registering seven goals and three assists in 22 La Liga appearances.

Adams also made his mark earlier in the campaign by scoring against Barcelona in the reverse fixture.
As Sevilla prepare to face the Catalan giants at the Camp Nou, the Nigerian forward will hope to build on his recent goal and help his side secure a historic result.

Sevilla are aiming for their first victory at the Camp Nou in more than 23 years, and Adams could play a key role if the visitors are to end that long wait.
