Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle says the upcoming Unity Cup will be used to assess new players, including those of Nigerian descent and standout performers from the domestic league.
Speaking via the official Super Eagles channels, Chelle confirmed he will widen his scouting network ahead of the four-team tournament in London.
Nigeria, winners of the 2025 edition, will return for the 2026 competition scheduled to take place between 26 and 30 May at The Valley.
The Super Eagles face Zimbabwe in the semi-finals and could meet either Jamaica or India in the final.
“The Unity Cup provides a platform to assess new players,” Chelle said. “I will comb Europe and invite players of Nigerian descent, alongside those previously called up who haven’t featured.”
He added that players from the Nigeria Premier Football League will also be closely monitored.
“I will be watching a number of domestic league games from now until the end of the season,” he said.

Following the tournament, Nigeria are scheduled to play international friendlies against Poland on 3 June and Portugal on 10 June.
Chelle said those matches would feature his established first-team players, as Nigeria aim to improve their position in the global rankings.

The Super Eagles are currently ranked 26th in the world and third in Africa.
“For the big warm-up games in June against Poland and Portugal, I will feature my first team players,” Chelle said. “These are games that can push us up the global ranking if we win them.”
