Rangers General Manager Barrister Amobi Ezeaku has moved to end speculation surrounding the future of Fidelis Ilechukwu, insisting the title-winning coach will remain at the club ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Questions over Ilechukwu’s future have continued to circulate since Rangers secured their ninth Nigeria Premier Football League title and followed it with another strong campaign that reinforced the club’s status among Nigeria’s leading sides.
The coach’s growing reputation has also been enhanced by his role with the Super Eagles coaching crew, leading to suggestions that he could be tempted by opportunities elsewhere.
However, speaking during Rangers’ end-of-season media briefing in Enugu on Thursday, Ezeaku said he had spoken directly with the coach and received assurances that he would return to continue his work with the Flying Antelopes.
“I will be direct about it. Ilechukwu will stay,” Ezeaku told journalists.
“We spoke this morning. He just told me he arrived in Portugal and he will be back before I travel for the next three weeks.”

The announcement is likely to come as a significant boost for Rangers supporters, who have watched the former MFM and Plateau United coach guide the club to one of the most successful periods in its recent history.
Since arriving in Enugu, Ilechukwu has helped Rangers re-establish themselves as genuine contenders domestically, delivering silverware and returning the club to conversations around sustained success.
Yet Ezeaku revealed that the coach had recently expressed concerns about the impact of criticism directed at him on social media.
According to the Rangers chief, Ilechukwu confided that repeated attacks from a social media commentator had become a source of frustration and concern.
Ezeaku claimed the issue had reached a point where the coach questioned whether he wanted to continue working in Enugu despite the successes achieved during his tenure.
“He said to me that his life is not safe in Enugu,” Ezeaku said.
The Rangers General Manager added that the club viewed the matter seriously and would take administrative steps aimed at protecting members of its technical crew and maintaining what he described as a safe environment around the club.
Ezeaku disclosed that Rangers were considering restrictions against the individual concerned and would communicate with relevant football authorities regarding the matter.
