Rangers General Manager Amobi Ezeaku has revealed plans for selective player sales, squad reinforcement and expanded international partnerships as the club prepares for the 2025/26 season and CAF Champions League campaign.

Rangers are preparing for a carefully managed transfer window that could see a handful of players depart, new arrivals recruited and international partnerships leveraged as the club gears up for the demands of the 2026/27 season.

Speaking during an end-of-season media briefing in Enugu, General Manager Amobi Ezeaku outlined a strategy built around sustainability, player development and long-term competitiveness as the Flying Antelopes prepare for another campaign on both domestic and continental fronts.

At the centre of that plan is a willingness to sanction a limited number of player departures.

Ezeaku disclosed that Rangers are not planning a major squad breakup despite interest in several members of the team. Instead, the club is looking at a controlled process that could see only a small number of players leave during the transfer window.

The Rangers chief suggested that any sales would form part of a broader sustainability model, with transfer income expected to help strengthen the club’s financial position while supporting preparations for continental football.

The approach reflects a growing trend among ambitious African clubs seeking to balance competitiveness with financial stability rather than relying solely on short term squad retention.

While exits are being considered, Rangers are also preparing to refresh the squad through recruitment.

Ezeaku expressed confidence in the club’s scouting structure, noting that previous recruitment exercises had successfully identified players who arrived with little fanfare before becoming key members of the first team.

That confidence, he indicated, gives Rangers the flexibility to allow certain players move on while maintaining faith in their ability to discover and develop the next generation of talent.

The transfer strategy is also expected to benefit from Rangers’ expanding international network.

Ezeaku revealed that the club recently entered into a collaboration agreement with Spanish side CD Tenerife, adding another overseas relationship to Rangers’ growing portfolio of football partnerships.

The agreement is expected to create opportunities for technical cooperation, player development and knowledge exchange between both clubs.

Rangers have also maintained their existing relationship with Swiss club FC Schaffhausen, a partnership that has already helped strengthen the club’s international connections in recent years.

Taken together, the collaborations represent part of a wider effort to position Rangers within a broader football ecosystem that extends beyond Nigeria.

Such relationships have become increasingly important for clubs seeking access to player pathways, development programmes, scouting opportunities and institutional expertise.

Beyond their overseas links, Rangers are also continuing to cultivate positive relationships within the domestic game, with Ezeaku showing the importance of cooperation across the Nigerian football landscape.
