Super Falcons touch down in Morocco as WAFCON 2026 preparations begin

The Super Falcons are set to unveil their final WAFCON 2026 squad as Nigeria prepare for a title defence, while opening opponents Malawi strengthen their technical team with a South African coach.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have officially begun the countdown to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after opening their training camp in Casablanca, Morocco, on Monday.

Head coach Justine Madugu will oversee preparations with a 25-player squad announced last week as Nigeria intensifies its build up to the continental championship.

The ten times African champions are expected to have all invited players report to camp before training sessions gather momentum ahead of the tournament.

The Casablanca base will serve as Nigeria’s final preparation camp before the team relocates to Rabat, where they will play their Group C matches.

Nigeria heads into the competition with one clear objective reclaiming the continental crown and extending its record as Africa’s most successful women’s national team with an 11th WAFCON title.

The Super Falcons have been drawn alongside Malawi, Zambia and Egypt in Group C.

Their campaign begins against tournament debutants Malawi at the Al Madina Stadium, Rabat, before a highly anticipated clash with Zambia, one of Africa’s fastest rising women’s teams.

Nigeria will then round off the group phase against Egypt, with all three fixtures expected to play a crucial role in determining the group’s final standings.

Beyond continental glory, the tournament also carries additional significance as it doubles as Africa’s qualification pathway for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

The four best performing teams at WAFCON 2026 will automatically qualify to represent the continent at the global tournament.
