Nigeria Premier Football League side Rivers United have strongly denied reports circulating on social media alleging that the club owes former players their June 2026 salaries.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, the Port Harcourt based club described the claims as false, insisting that every financial obligation to players and officials was settled immediately after the conclusion of the 2025/26 campaign.
The club explained that the season officially ended on June 15, 2026, after which all outstanding payments were cleared.
According to Rivers United, the payments covered not only salaries but also NPFL bonuses, CAF competition bonuses and President Federation Cup bonuses.
The club further revealed that clearance letters were issued to all affected players and signed by both parties, confirming that there were no outstanding financial obligations.
“The 2025/2026 season officially concluded on 6th June 2026, and immediately thereafter, the club fully discharged all outstanding financial obligations to players and officials.”

Rivers United maintained that professionalism, transparency and player welfare remain central to the club’s operations, adding that it operates a comprehensive life assurance policy for all registered players in line with global best practices.
The former NPFL champions also urged anyone with genuine grievances to follow established football channels rather than taking disputes to social media.
“We urge anyone with grievances to seek redress through the appropriate football authorities rather than through social media trials.”
The club concluded by reiterating its commitment to maintaining the highest professional standards while contributing to the continued growth of Nigerian football.
