Concern has emerged around Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany after reports that the Belgian was taken to hospital following a training session in Munich on Friday.
According to Sky Sport, the 40-year-old was transported by ambulance after collapsing at Bayern’s Säbener Straße training ground. A rescue helicopter had reportedly landed at the complex earlier.
No further details about Kompany’s condition were provided in the report, and it remains unclear what caused the incident.
The reported collapse comes after the Bayern manager had been battling a viral infection that appeared to affect his health in recent days.
Kompany had struggled during recent matches
Kompany was visibly weakened during Bayern’s 6-1 victory over RB Leipzig and reportedly had to lie down during the match.
His illness also affected preparations for Bayern’s Champions League meeting with Arsenal, with the Belgian missing training on Monday and Tuesday.
Assistant coach Aaron Danks subsequently handled the press conference ahead of the European fixture in Kompany’s absence.
The Bayern manager returned to the touchline on Wednesday for the 2-2 draw against Arsenal, raising hopes that he had recovered sufficiently to resume his duties.
However, Friday’s reported incident has renewed concerns about his condition.
