The 2026/27 Nigeria National League (NNL) season will begin a day later than originally scheduled, with organizers adjusting the date of the opening fixture involving Heartland and Crown FC.
The Conference A encounter, initially scheduled for Saturday, October 31, will now take place on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.
NNL Chief Operating Officer Danlami Alanana announced the adjustment, apologizing to both clubs and their supporters for the change.
The decision was necessitated by important state events scheduled to take place at the same venue on October 31, according to the league.
NNL want strong turnout for season opener
Alanana said the adjustment was intended to ensure the host state was adequately represented at the opening match and to create an atmosphere befitting the occasion.
“The NNL wants the host state to be adequately represented at the opening fixture to ensure a strong turnout and create the atmosphere befitting of the occasion,” he said in a statement.

The league chief operating officer urged both clubs and their supporters to understand the circumstances behind the rescheduling, stressing that the decision was in the interest of a successful start to the new campaign.
Other NNL fixtures remain unchanged
Despite the adjustment to the opening match, the NNL confirmed that the other fixtures across Conferences A, B, C and D would not be affected.
Those matches remain scheduled for the weekend of November 7–8, 2026, at venues across the country.
The Heartland-Crown FC encounter will therefore officially usher in the new NNL season, giving both sides the opportunity to open their campaigns when the Owerri fixture kicks off on November 1.
