Arokodare opens up on Ajax future after reaching career milestone

Tolu Arokodare is thriving in Amsterdam and has made his preference clear, but a permanent Ajax move depends on negotiations with Wolves. What happens next?

Tolu Arokodare has made his preference clear about where he wants to play beyond this season, offering Ajax a glimpse of his intentions as his loan spell in Amsterdam continues to gather momentum.

The Super Eagles striker has quickly become an influential figure at the Dutch club since arriving from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer, with his performances drawing growing support for a permanent deal.

But while Arokodare is keen to stay, he has acknowledged that his future is not his decision alone. Any agreement will depend on Ajax and Wolves finding a way forward.

“It is between Ajax and Wolves. I like it here, I love it here. The people are amazing, the fans are amazing, the team is amazing, the club is amazing,” Arokodare said after Ajax’s victory over Atalanta.

The 25-year-old’s comments followed another influential performance in Ajax’s 2-0 Conference League win over Atalanta on Thursday.

Introduced in the 66th minute in place of Marcos Leonardo, Arokodare broke the deadlock in the 87th minute, calmly finishing after receiving a pass from Youri Baas. He then turned provider in stoppage time, setting up Abdellah Ouazane to secure the victory.

The result gave Ajax their first win of the 2026/27 Conference League campaign after an opening 2-1 defeat to Hajduk Split. It also provided another illustration of the Nigerian’s ability to influence matches from the bench.

His goal against Atalanta was particularly significant, taking his career tally to 100 goals at club level. It was also his first goal in the main phase of a UEFA Champions League, Europa League or Conference League competition, having previously scored in qualifying rounds.

Arokodare has recorded eight goals and three assists in 13 appearances across all competitions this season, according to the supplied report.

That return has helped him win over Ajax supporters, some of whom have called for the club to secure his services permanently rather than allow him to return to England at the end of his loan.

His latest performance has strengthened that argument, although admiration from supporters does not guarantee an agreement between the clubs.

Ajax and Wolves will have to determine whether a permanent transfer is viable, with the terms of any potential deal yet to be established in the information available.

The decision now rests with Ajax and Wolves

The attraction of staying is clear for Arokodare. His comments shows how comfortable he feels in Amsterdam, where he has found opportunities to contribute and built a positive relationship with the club’s supporters.

However, he has stopped short of suggesting that a permanent transfer is imminent, placing responsibility for the next step firmly on the two clubs.
