CAF CL: Mamelodi Sundowns make 7–1 Amala and Ewedu out of Remo Stars

Remo Stars have been knocked out of the CAF Champions League after losing 2–0 to South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg of their final qualifying tie on Sunday.

The Nigeria Premier Football League champions arrived in Pretoria needing a remarkable turnaround following a 5–1 first-leg defeat in Abeokuta, but their challenge was quickly ended by a clinical Sundowns side.

Nuno Santos gave the home team the lead midway through the first half after linking up with Aubrey Modiba on the left flank. Namibian striker Peter Shalulile added a second goal shortly before half-time, finishing from close range after Remo Stars failed to deal with a corner.

After the interval, Daniel Ogunmodede’s men produced a more disciplined performance and avoided a repeat of the heavy scoreline from the first leg. The Nigerian champions worked hard to limit the damage but rarely threatened the Sundowns goal.
