Kun Khalifat frustrate Remo Stars to deepen relegation worries

Remo Stars troubled Nigeria Premier Football League 2025/2026 campaign showed little sign of improvement as they were held to a 1-1 draw by bottom side Kun Khalifat in Ibadan.

Playing at the Lekan Salami Stadium for the first time after being forced to relocate from Ikenne, the Sky Blue Stars were hoping for a fresh start. Instead, they were caught cold early on.

Kun Khalifat stunned the hosts in the fifth minute when Ebetomame Oghenetega capitalised on a shaky opening to fire the visitors into an early lead.

The result of Remo Stars temporary relocation loomed over proceedings. The club had been ordered to play their remaining home matches in Ibadan and fined ₦7m after crowd trouble involving supporters during a previous fixture in Ikenne.

Stung by the early goal, Remo Stars dominated possession and created a flurry of chances but struggled badly with their finishing. Victor Mbaoma, Michael Ibe, Haruna Hadi, Albert Korvah and Fabian Nworie all failed to convert promising opportunities as frustration grew among the home support.

It was not until the 78th minute that Remo finally found a breakthrough, Ahmed Akinyele striking from long range to bring the hosts level and briefly raise hopes of a late winner.

Despite sustained pressure in the closing stages, Kun Khalifat defended resolutely to earn a valuable point, frustrating Remo and silencing the late momentum.
