Kwara United have been fined a total of N12m and deducted three points and three goals following crowd trouble during their Nigeria Premier Football League fixture against Rivers United.
The sanctions were issued by the Nigeria Premier Football League after the rearranged Matchday 22 game on Wednesday, 18 February 2026 at the Kwara State Stadium in Ilorin.
According to the league body, Kwara United breached NPFL Framework and Rules by failing to provide adequate and effective security, which allowed unauthorised persons access to restricted areas.
The club was also found guilty of failing to control their supporters, leading to the harassment and assault of match officials and officials of Rivers United. The league said the incidents resulted in bodily harm and brought the game into disrepute.
Breakdown of sanctions
- Kwara United were fined:
- N2m for failing to provide adequate security
- N1m for failing to ensure proper conduct of supporters
- N2m for assault on match officials and Rivers United officials
- N1m for unsporting behaviour
- N1m for holding match officials and Rivers United officials for several hours after the match
- N2m as compensatory costs for treatment and damages
In addition, three points and three goals have been deducted from the club’s accumulated tally for the season.

Kwara United must also play their remaining home fixtures at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta. The club has been directed to identify supporters involved in the assaults for arrest and prosecution, with proof of compliance required.

Kwara United have 48 hours from the date of notice to appeal the sanctions.
