Mikel Obi very frustrated with Chelsea’s transfer decision over €75m star

Chelsea - Mikel Obi

Former Super Eagles and Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has decided to stop pushing for the Nigerian forward and Napoli’s loanee to Galatasaray, Victor Osimhen, to join Chelsea after several failed efforts.

In the ‘’Nkunku’s time up at Chelsea? | Jackson return | Lampard v De Bruyne’’ episode of the Obi One Podcast, the 37-year-old stated his decision to withdraw from pursuing the Osimhens talk with Chelsea.

He said, ”That’s what I say about Victor; he will get you goals; he will score you goals, maybe not the most; don’t look at that, look at the fact of what he does best… He will win you leagues; he will win you titles; he will put you in the top 4, and that’s my argument, always will be my argument.”

”For me, it’s going to be sad for us (Chelsea) to not get a player who supported the club as a kid growing up and wants to play for us (Chelsea)…”

“Make no mistake if Victor Osimhen comes to Chelsea, he will want to break records, he will want to put himself on top there. His idol is who? Diedi Drogba, he will want to go after his record, he will want to score goals, win us trophies, then get us back to the top, that will be his mission.”

“His hunger when he plays, the ambition when he plays is something that few players has, and the arrogance he has it, the feistiness he has it, that you need to be able to succeed in the Premier League as a top striker, he has it all. So, for me, I can see a great partnership happening.”

“I’ve said what I have to say, I’ve done my part. If the club chooses not to pursue it, fair enough. The player has so many options. Good luck to him, good luck to Chelsea. If it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen.

But the good thing about it is that we know exactly where we stopped, and there’s not much in it. You can speed it back up get the player straight in to the door because we know where we stop.”

He further spoke on his conversation with the forward player during the summer not to go to the Saudi Pro League.

“I told the kid, ‘Don’t go. ’ Saudi is always going to be there; they don’t have the World Cup until 2034, but they will still be spending.”

“Come here, come to us [Chelsea]; two, three, four seasons Saudi is still going to be there, and the good thing is he listened, but how long are you going to continue to say no to such huge, huge money?”

“We are human beings; at some point, your head gets turned. You have family members talking to you; you have your parents talking to you. Listen, you keep rejecting this money; it is generational money.”

“You can’t keep putting it off; at some point, your head is going to get turned.”

“I believe he still wants to be in Europe; he wants to play in the Premier League. That has been his dream: to play in the Premier League, to win the Champions League, to play in the Champions League, so I hope that happens next summer, and whatever he chooses to do, that’s his decision.”
