Nigeria seek first win over Morocco in crucial Davis Cup tie

Nigeria will face Morocco in the 2026 Davis Cup World Group I play-off, with the tie scheduled for 18–20 September.

The draw was confirmed by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), sees Nigeria attempt to secure promotion while also chasing a first-ever victory over the North African nation in the competition.

Morocco, currently ranked 48th in the world, are Africa’s second-highest-ranked tennis nation behind Egypt and have traditionally been one of the continent’s strongest Davis Cup sides.

The two nations first met in 1973, with Morocco holding the historical advantage across previous encounters.

Morocco dropped into the play-off round following a 3–1 defeat to Colombia in the last World Group I stage. Nigeria, by contrast, earned their place after defeating Uzbekistan in a Group II tie.
