Day one of the Nigeria Women Football league (NWFL) Super Six delivers intense battles and sets the tone for a thrilling finale.

The 2025 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Super Six playoffs kicked off with dramatic flair at the Ikenne Sports Complex as Nasarawa Amazons mounted a spirited comeback to defeat Naija Ratels 2-1 in the opening fixture.

Rita Tsebee had handed Naija Ratels a surprise lead in the 13th minute, capitalising on early pressure to stun the Lafia-based side. But the Amazons responded with resilience.

Star forward Janet Akekoromowei netted a crucial equaliser five minutes before the break — her 10th goal of the season — before Josephine Mathias secured the win with a powerful header from a corner in the 55th minute.

Rivers Angels had a golden opportunity to draw level in the second half after being awarded a penalty, but Ifeoma Ikenokwalu’s spot-kick was brilliantly denied by Monle Omini in the Bayelsa goal.

The Prosperity Ladies had already enjoyed the better of previous meetings with the Angels during the regular season and once again proved their mettle.
