RS Berkane to report ASC Kara over alleged ‘black magic’ in CAF Champions League

RS Berkane will report ASC Kara to CAF after alleging black magic rituals before their 1-1 CAF Champions League draw in Togo.

Moroccan champions RS Berkane are preparing to lodge a formal complaint with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), after accusing Togo’s ASC Kara of carrying out black magic rituals before their Champions League 1st leg preliminary round match on Sunday.

The clash in Togo ended 1-1, with Amoudane Ouro-Ayeva opening the scoring for Kara in the 47th minute before Berkane’s Oussama Lamlioui equalised in the 77th minute.

Berkane, reigning CAF Confederation Cup champions, claim that ‘occult practices’ performed on the pitch before kick-off disrupted their players and influenced the outcome, according to African football journalist Micky Jnr.

The Moroccan club lifted their third Confederation Cup title earlier this year, coming from behind to draw 1-1 with Simba SC in Zanzibar and secure the trophy on aggregate adding to their triumphs in 2020 and 2022.

ASC Kara have not yet publicly responded to the allegations.

CAF has previously warned clubs against practices deemed unsporting or outside football’s rules, but accusations of witchcraft have surfaced periodically in African football.

The return leg will take place in Morocco next weekend.
