Super Falcons: President Tinubu to receive WAFCON champions as Abuja hosts victory parade and concert

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade calls for increased government support and investment in women’s football following WAFCON 2024 win.

Nigeria’s victorious Super Falcons are expected to receive a rapturous welcome this evening as they return home from Morocco following their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2024 triumph.

The African champions will be paraded through the streets of Abuja on an open-top bus, after their dramatic 3–2 comeback win over hosts Morocco in Saturday’s final in Rabat secured a record-extending 10th continental title.

According to the National Sports Commission, the welcome celebrations will culminate in a live concert at Eagles Square from 7pm, with top Nigerian music stars scheduled to perform for the team and the fans.

Supporters are expected to line the streets from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport through Airport Road, Berger Junction, Maitama, and Wuse Market, before the players are formally received at the Presidential Villa.

The Super Falcons will be honoured with an open-top bus parade and a live concert  following their historic WAFCON 2024 title win in Morocco.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to host the squad, led by captain Rasheedat Ajibade who won the Most valuable player of the tournament and Esther Okoronkwo, who delivered a match-winning performance in the final with a goal and two assists in Nigeria’s second-half comeback.

The Super Falcons went unbeaten throughout the tournament, only conceding in the semi-final and final, and will now celebrate with the nation after cementing their status as Africa’s most successful women’s team.
