Trabzonspor demand over ₦47b for Onuachu’s Trabzonspor move or no deal

Trabzonspor have reportedly set a €30m asking price for Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu as Al Ahli continue their push to sign the Nigerian forward.

Trabzonspor have reportedly placed a €30m price tag on Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu as Saudi Pro League club Al Ahli continues their efforts to prise the Nigerian forward away from Turkey.

The 32-year-old is facing renewed uncertainty over his future despite only returning to Trabzonspor permanently last summer, with Al Ahli emerging as the strongest contenders for his signature.

The Saudi club are expected to hold another meeting with Trabzonspor this week as they assess whether they can reach an agreement for the prolific striker.

Onuachu is understood to be open to a move, but Trabzonspor’s €30m valuation means Al Ahli must significantly improve their proposal if they are to get the deal over the line.

Onuachu returned to Trabzonspor on a permanent basis after initially spending the 2023/24 season at the club on loan from Southampton.

The Nigerian scored 26 goals in all competitions, including 22 in the Turkish Süper Lig, where he finished joint-top scorer alongside Istanbul Basaksehir’s Eldor Shomurodov.

He was also instrumental in Trabzonspor’s Turkish Cup triumph, scoring twice in the 2025 final as they defeated Konyaspor 2-1.

Those performances have made Onuachu a soughtafter target despite his age, with clubs in Turkey and Saudi Arabia showing interest.

Trabzonspor have already turned down two offers for the striker and had maintained that they wanted to keep their leading goalscorer.

However, the club’s position could be changing because of their pursuit of former Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez.

Trabzonspor’s interest in Nunez has intensified the speculation surrounding Onuachu, with the arrival of another established striker potentially making it easier for the Turkish club to sanction his departure. Recent reports indicate that Trabzonspor have reached an agreement in principle for Nunez to move from Al Hilal.

Rather than losing their main striker without adequate cover, Trabzonspor would have a ready-made replacement before accepting a major offer for Onuachu.

Al Ahli have emerged as the leading Saudi club in the race and are expected to continue negotiations.

The Saudi side’s interest comes as Onuachu enters what could be the final stage of his Trabzonspor career only one year after completing his permanent return.

Al Hilal could also become involved if they decide to strengthen their attacking options, particularly amid uncertainty surrounding Karim Benzema’s future.

The situation could become even more complicated if Al Hilal’s plans for Nunez ultimately push the Uruguayan towards Trabzonspor and create space for another forward in Saudi Arabia.

Onuachu has also attracted interest from Turkish rivals Fenerbahce. However, their pursuit has reportedly ended after the Istanbul giants turned their attention to Romelu Lukaku, who has moved to the club from Napoli.

That leaves the Saudi market as the most realistic destination should Onuachu leave Trabzonspor this summer.
