Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has expressed pride in his team’s performance following their 2-0 victory over Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

The win, Nigeria’s first-ever on Rwandan soil, revived their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Nigeria started on the front foot, and it didn’t take long for Victor Osimhen to break the deadlock. In the 11th minute, Moses Simon won a free kick in a dangerous area.

Ademola Lookman delivered a pinpoint cross, and Osimhen reacted quickest to give Nigeria an early lead against Rwanda.

The Super Eagles kept up the pressure, with Lookman and Simon creating more chances. Captain William Troost-Ekong went close with a header, while Simon forced a superb save from Rwandan goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari.

Just before halftime, Osimhen doubled the lead. His relentless pressing forced a defensive mistake, and he pounced on the loose ball, racing through on goal before coolly chipping over the onrushing goalkeeper.

Chelle Applauds Team Effort

Despite Rwanda’s attempts to respond in the second half, Nigeria controlled the game well, limiting their opponents to half-chances while keeping possession.

After the match, Chelle commended his players’ discipline and hard work.

“It was a difficult game; Rwanda have a great team. I’m proud of my players’ performance. We worked a lot within the few days, we had just two full training sessions. We kept the ball well in the second half—good performance from my guys.”Chelle said.

With this victory, Nigeria moves to fourth place in Group C with six points from five matches. Up next, they face Zimbabwe in Uyo on March 25, where they will look to build on this momentum and strengthen their push for a place at the 2026 World Cup.
