Edo State to host first phase of Ardova Handball Premier League 2025

The Handball Federation of Nigeria has confirmed that the first phase of the Ardova Handball Premier League 2025 will be held in Edo state

The Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) has officially announced that the first phase of the 2025 Ardova Handball Premier League will take place in Benin City, Edo State, from 7 to 20 July 2025.

According to a statement signed by the HFN Secretary General, Mrs Monica Otumala, all participating teams are expected to arrive on 7 July for the mandatory technical meeting, with matches kicking off on the 8th.

“This is to inform everyone that the first phase of the Ardova Handball Premier League 2025 will be held from July 7th to the 20th, 2025, in Benin City, Edo State,” Otumala said.

“All teams [are] expected to arrive on the 7th of July for the all-important technical meeting where the rules guiding the premier league will be expatriated according to the rules of the International Handball Federation (IHF) and the Confederation of African Handball (CAHB).”

She also called on clubs to complete player registrations and finalise their preparations ahead of the tournament.

The Ardova Handball Premier League, proudly sponsored by Ardova PLC, is Nigeria’s top-flight handball competition. Now in its 8th season, the league features 22 teams , 12 male and 10 female competing across two phases using a round-robin format in both categories.

Tojemarine Handball Club are the reigning champions in the men’s division, aiming to defend their title for the first time in the club’s history.

On the women’s side, Safety Babes will be gunning for an unprecedented fifth consecutive league crown, cementing their dominance in Nigerian handball.
