Six Super Falcons players’ luggage finally in Lagos after long delay

The luggage belonging to six Super Falcons players has finally arrived in Lagos, Nigeria after being stranded in Morocco for three weeks.

The bags, belonging to Rasheedat Ajibade, Ifeoma Onumonu, Chinwendu Ihezuo, Deborah Abiodun, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Toni Payne, are now in storage at the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO) cargo section of Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos.

According to journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, the luggage arrived on Sunday.

The row began after ValueJet, the airline that flew the Falcons home following their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) triumph in July, reportedly limited the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to carrying only 60 bags.

In recognition of the achievement, President Bola Tinubu conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on each player, alongside a three-bedroom apartment at the Renewed Hope Estate in Abuja and a $100,000 cash reward.

Members of the technical crew were also awarded $50,000 each.

While the luggage arrival in Lagos marks progress, questions remain over how and when the bags will be delivered to players, many of whom have since returned to their clubs in Europe, Asia and America.
