Iwobi issues defiant message as Fulham extend home form

Alex Iwobi says Fulham’s belief is growing after their 1–0 victory over Sunderland at Craven Cottage, insisting the team is ready to take on any Premier League opponent.

The Nigeria midfielder was part of a Fulham side that carved out several chances before finally breaking through late on. Substitute Samuel Chukwueze delivered the decisive moment, lifting a cross into the box for Raúl Jiménez to guide home as Fulham secured a fourth home league win of the season.

Chukwueze’s contribution earned praise from both Marco Silva and Jiménez, with the winger continuing to build momentum after returning from international duty with the Super Eagles.

Iwobi who featured in Nigeria’s recent World Cup qualifying defeat said Fulham’s performances at Craven Cottage have become an important foundation for the season.

“Our home form has been really good,” he said. “Sunderland are a strong side and they’ve been on a good run, but we always feel we can compete with anyone that comes here.”

The 29-year-old said Fulham’s persistence paid off after a series of missed opportunities earlier in the match.

“We created plenty of chances. It was starting to look like one of those days where it just wouldn’t fall for us,” he added. “But credit to the team, we kept pushing and thankfully one of them went in.”

Iwobi believes consistency will be key as Fulham aim to climb further up the table.

“We don’t fear anyone in the league,” he said. “We respect every opponent, but it’s now about being consistent and turning performances into results. We worked all week on different ways to break them down. It was effective, we just needed to take our chances.”

He also emphasised the importance of defensive discipline.

“As long as we keep clean sheets, we’ll always create opportunities,” he said.
