AFCON 2025: Chelle on Ndidi, Iwobi, PKs and belief ahead of Morocco clash

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle says he remains confident in his squad ahead of Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final against hosts Morocco, despite the absence of captain Wilfred Ndidi.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference in Rabat, Chelle admitted he was disappointed Ndidi will miss Wednesday’s clash through suspension, describing the midfielder as a major presence in the team.

“I’m disappointed for Ndidi, he brings a lot to the team. But we shall see what others will bring to us against Morocco” Chelle said.

Chelle also spoke at length about Alex Iwobi, praising the midfielder’s intelligence and influence within the squad, while acknowledging his personality off the pitch.

“Alex has a very high football IQ, he smells football. I’m so proud of him. As for his YouTube channel, sometimes he needs to think about other things, but it’s an outlet for him and the players.”
