Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone said Ademola Lookman’s one-on-one quality and versatility set him apart after the forward impressed on his debut in a 5–0 Copa del Rey quarter-final win over Real Betis.
Lookman, who joined Atlético Madrid from Atalanta for €40m, played 79 minutes and made an immediate impact, scoring once and providing an assist as Diego Simeone’s side booked a place in the semi-finals.
“Lookman is different from all the players we have, especially in one-on-one situations,” Simeone said. “But he also has associative play.
“His profile allows us to use him in different positions, and his impact on the team was very good.”

The Nigeria international was Atlético’s most effective attacker on the night, completing three dribbles the highest number in the match and winning seven duels, also the most by any player.
When asked if the Nigeria international would need an adaptation period, Simeone responded, “he’s a big lad, he’s already 28 years old”
“He came to help us, and we hope to help him too so that he can continue to grow,” Simeone said. “He has different qualities to the players we have, and he will make us better.”

Lookman scored Atlético’s third goal shortly before half-time, bringing up the 100th goal of his senior career, before setting up Antoine Griezmann for the fourth just after the hour mark.

Simeone added that the forward settled quickly into the squad and looked at ease from the outset.
“He felt comfortable, and hopefully we can help him become an even better footballer, just as he can help us grow as a team,” the Atlético coach said.

The victory extended Atlético’s unbeaten away run across all competitions, while Real Betis will face Simeone’s side again in LaLiga on Sunday.
