The Nigeria Football Federation has begun the appeal process after FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee dismissed its petition challenging the eligibility of some Democratic Republic of Congo players in the 2026 Africa World Cup playoff final in Rabat, Morocco.
The contested match, played on 16 November 2025 at the Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium, ended 1-1 after extra time, with DR Congo beating Nigeria in a sudden-death penalty shootout.

Dr Mohammed Sanusi, NFF General Secretary, stated: “We have received the decision of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee on our petition, but we are not satisfied with the decision, which rejected our petition. I want to assure Nigerians that the NFF has immediately commenced the process of appealing the decision”.

The original petition questioned the legitimacy of passports issued to certain DR Congo players, alleging they were ineligible for the playoffs.
