Real Madrid fight back to beat Atletico as Lookman scores in derby thriller

Real Madrid came from behind to beat Atletico Madrid 3-2 in a dramatic La Liga derby, despite an opening goal from Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman.

The visitors took the lead late in the first half at the Santiago Bernabéu, but two goals from Vinícius Júnior and a strike from Federico Valverde secured victory for the hosts.

The result keeps Real Madrid four points behind leaders Barcelona with nine matches remaining, while Atletico remain fourth.

Lookman opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, finishing from close range after a clever backheel assist by Giuliano Simeone.

Real Madrid responded soon after the restart, with Vinícius levelling from the penalty spot six minutes into the second half after sending goalkeeper Juan Musso the wrong way.

The hosts then turned the game around when Valverde won possession high up the pitch and fired home to make it 2-1.

Atletico coach Diego Simeone made a triple substitution, withdrawing Antoine Griezmann, Lookman and Johnny Cardoso.

The changes had an immediate impact, as Nahuel Molina equalised with a long-range strike to bring the visitors level at 2-2.
