Nwaiwu and Onuachu fire Trabzonspor to crucial win over Galatasaray

Super Eagles duo Paul Onuachu and Chibuike Nwaiwu were on target as Trabzonspor secured a significant 2-1 victory over league leaders Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig.

The result, earned in front of a packed home crowd at Papara Park, keeps Trabzonspor firmly in the title race and ends a long wait for a home win against their rivals.

Trabzonspor made a dream start when Onuachu opened the scoring inside four minutes. The striker rose to meet a cross and powered a header into the net, registering his 22nd league goal of the season and the earliest goal conceded by Galatasaray in this campaign.

Galatasaray, who were without injured forward Victor Osimhen, responded with sustained pressure but struggled to convert their chances before the break. Onuachu thought he had doubled the lead just before half-time, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

The visitors eventually found an equaliser early in the second half through Wilfried Singo, setting up a tense contest between two title contenders.

However, Trabzonspor regained the lead in the 62nd minute when Nwaiwu met a free-kick delivery with a decisive header. The defender’s contribution proved decisive as the home side held firm under late pressure.
