Nine candidates have been confirmed for the FECOFA presidential election, with former Confederation of African Football Secretary General Véron Mosengo-Omba leading the race ahead of the May 20 vote in DR Congo.
The race for the presidency of the Fédération Congolaise de Football Association (FECOFA) has gathered pace, with nine provisional candidates officially confirmed by the electoral commission ahead of next month’s vote.
Officials say nine candidate lists were submitted before the deadline, with a verification process now underway to determine those eligible for the final ballot.
Among the headline names is former Confederation of African Football secretary general Véron Mosengo-Omba, who enters the race with significant administrative pedigree following his recent exit from the continental governing body.

Also in contention is former DR Congo international Shabani Nonda, whose playing career included spells at top European clubs such as AS Monaco and AS Roma, as he looks to transition into football administration.
Another notable entrant, Aziz Makukula, had earlier submitted his application, although his candidacy has sparked debate following his decision to represent Portugal during his playing career.
The electoral commission released the following names as heads of candidate lists:

- Bosco Mwehu
- Didier Massamba
- Jean-Claude Mukanya
- Kevin Issa
- Max Mayaka
- Patrice-Rainier Mangenda
- Shabani Nonda
- Véron Mosengo-Omba
Attention now turns to the validation phase, with the final list of approved candidates set to be published on May 11.
The election itself will take place on May 20, in what is expected to mark a significant turning point for football governance in DR Congo after a prolonged period of administrative oversight.

Further elections are also scheduled across the National Youth Football League, women’s football structures, and the National League, as part of a broader effort to restore stability and redefine leadership after a prolonged period of administrative oversight.
