Femi Azeez has emerged as one of the most compelling Nigeria eligible talents in England this season. The Millwall FC winger has quietly put together a campaign that demands attention, finishing the regular season with 16 goal contributions nine goals and seven assists in 33 Championship appearances.

Azeez’s ninth goal of the season, a composed left-footed finish in a 3-1 win over Stoke City, secured Millwall’s place in the Championship playoffs and kept alive their push for Premier League football.

These are not the numbers of a peripheral squad player. They reflect a footballer carrying genuine attacking responsibility in a side competing at the sharp end of a demanding league.

At 24, Azeez’s timing could not be more significant. Born to a Nigerian father and a Spanish mother, he remains eligible for the Super Eagles, and crucially, requires no nationality switch.

With Nigeria set to feature in the Unity Cup in London, the stage is perfectly set. Chelle has already signalled his intention to introduce new faces into the squad and Azeez fits that profile almost exactly.

Beyond his attacking output, his all round performance offers further intrigue.

Against Stoke, operating from the right flank, he combined end product with defensive work winning five ground duels and three aerial battles, alongside two tackles and five recoveries. In a physically demanding fixture, that two way contribution stood out.

There are still areas to refine. His dribbling efficiency one successful attempt from three suggests room for development. Yet his creative influence remains clear: two key passes, two chances created, and a goal from open play.

Femi Azeez’s 16 goal contributions for Millwall spark calls for a Super Eagles call-up as Nigeria prepares for the Unity Cup.

Azeez’s most productive season statistically came in 2023/24 with Reading FC, where he registered 18 goal contributions. While he has not matched that tally this term, he has delivered at a higher level, within a more structured and competitive environment.

It’s all over to Eric Chelle, the decision is becoming harder to delay.
