Tolu Arokodare’s move to Wolverhampton Wanderers is already being described as a “regrettable signing” following a difficult debut season that has ended in relegation.
The Nigerian striker joined Wolves from KRC Genk in a deal worth €26 million after an impressive campaign in Belgium, where he registered 23 goals and seven assists in 45 appearances.
Expectations were high, but the reality has proved far more challenging.
Arokodare featured in 33 matches across the season, largely from the bench, managing six goals and two assists. While the numbers reflect a modest return, they also underline his limited opportunities to establish rhythm in the team.

Wolves’ struggles went beyond individual performances. The club’s relegation from the Premier League confirmed with games still to spare brought a disappointing end to their eight-year stay in the division.
Reports suggest former head coach Vitor Pereira was not in favour of signing Arokodare, with sporting director Domenico Teti said to have pushed the deal through. That disconnect is believed to have contributed to the striker’s inconsistent role during Pereira’s tenure.
According to Molineux News journalist Tom Procter, the move now stands out as one of the club’s most questionable decisions of the season.
