Super Eagles defender Ola Aina has reacted to Taiwo Awoniyi’s departure from Nottingham Forest after the Nigerian striker completed his move to Coventry City during the summer transfer window.
Awoniyi’s exit brought an end to his spell at the City Ground and also ended the presence of two Nigerian internationals in Forest’s squad, with Aina now the only Super Eagles player remaining at the club.
The defender, however, says he remains focused on enjoying his football and contributing to Forest’s campaign despite the departure of his compatriot.

Speaking to Ratings, Aina revealed that he personally contacted Awoniyi after the striker completed his move and expressed his happiness for him as he began a new chapter with Coventry.
“Yeah, I’m alone now. I just want to keep playing and enjoying my football. That’s the main thing for me,” Aina said.
“I messaged him personally that day. It was a personal note I sent to him. I was so happy for him. It’s between us, and I hope we can have a good season,” he added.
Awonii joined Forest in 2022 after making his name in European football and became an important part of the club’s return to the Premier League.

His time at Forest was later affected by injuries and increased competition for places, but he leaves with a significant chapter of his career having been established at the City Ground.
Aina, meanwhile, continues to play an important role for both Nottingham Forest and Nigeria, with his focus now firmly on the season ahead following the departure of his compatriot.
