Super Eagles placed in tricky Group L for AFCON 2027 qualifiers

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been drawn in Group L of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers alongside Madagascar, Tanzania and Guinea-Bissau.

The Super Eagles, who finished third at the last AFCON in 2026, will begin their qualification campaign later this year as they target a place at the continental tournament to be staged in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

A total of 48 nations, including the three host countries, are participating in the qualifiers.

CAF confirmed that the teams were divided into 12 groups of four, with the top two sides from each group qualifying automatically for the finals.

However, because Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda have already qualified as hosts, only one additional team will progress from each of their respective groups.

Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong was among the African football legends who conducted the draw ceremony.

Former Egypt goalkeeper Essam El Hadary, ex-Cote d’Ivoire winger Max-Alain Gradel and DR Congo legend Trésor Mputu also took part in the event.
