Just weeks after AIK Stockholm prevented him from making his long-awaited Super Eagles debut, Zadok Yohanna has become the centre of one of the hottest transfer battles involving a Nigerian teenager in recent years.

The 18-year-old winger’s stock continues to rise across Europe, with Chelsea’s BlueCo ownership group and Manchester City’s City Football Group now joining the race for his signature, according to reports from TEAMtalk.

Their interest adds another heavyweight dimension to a transfer saga that already includes Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United, with the Premier League quartet now battling for one of Scandinavia’s most coveted young talents.

Yohanna’s rapid emergence has transformed him into arguably the most sought after prospect currently playing in Sweden.

The Nigerian winger only arrived at AIK from Ikon Allah Academy last summer but has adapted remarkably quickly to European football, producing a series of eye catching performances that have attracted attention from scouts across the continent.

Operating predominantly from the right wing despite being naturally left footed, Yohanna has registered nine goal contributions across all competitions this season and established himself as one of the standout young players in Scandinavian football.

Brighton were initially reported to be leading the race after reaching a verbal agreement with the player.

The Seagulls have been working to finalise terms with AIK and were understood to be increasingly confident of securing a deal following advanced discussions between all parties.

However, the situation has become significantly more complicated.

Newcastle United have since emerged as serious contenders and are believed to have tabled the highest offer among the clubs pursuing the teenager.

Now, the arrival of Chelsea and Manchester City has further intensified the battle, with both clubs exploring opportunities to hijack a deal that previously appeared to be moving towards Brighton.

The growing interest is hardly surprising given Yohanna’s extraordinary rise over the past year.

Several major European clubs have already been linked with the winger, including Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig, Rennes and Tottenham.

His reputation soared even further in April when reports suggested as many as 32 scouts attended an AIK match against Kalmar FF to monitor his progress.

AIK are believed to value Yohanna at around €30 million, a fee that would make him the most expensive outgoing transfer in Swedish football history if completed.

The latest developments come shortly after the youngster was denied the chance to make his senior Nigeria debut.

Yohanna had earned his maiden Super Eagles call-up from head coach Eric Chelle for the Unity Cup in London following his impressive form in Sweden.

However, AIK refused to release him, citing the final stages of his rehabilitation from injury as well as his importance to the club’s campaign.

While that decision disappointed Nigerian supporters eager to see one of the country’s brightest prospects in international colours, it now appears only to have heightened the spotlight surrounding the teenager.

With Brighton holding a verbal agreement, Newcastle reportedly pushing hardest financially, and Chelsea and Manchester City now entering the contest, the race for Yohanna’s signature is rapidly developing into one of the most intriguing transfer stories involving a Nigerian player this summer.

AIK remain in a strong negotiating position, while Europe’s elite continue to circle around a teenager whose value and reputation appear to be rising with every passing week.
