Super Falcons forward Joy Omewa has completed a move to Swedish champions BK Häcken, signing a three-year contract with the Damallsvenskan side as she continues her rise in European football.
The 23-year-old joins on a free transfer following the expiration of her contract with English Women’s Super League 2 side Nottingham Forest and becomes the latest Nigerian to wear the famous black-and-yellow colours.
Omewa will reunite with compatriot Halimatu Ayinde at BK Häcken, adding another Nigerian presence to a squad preparing to defend its domestic title and compete on the European stage.
The move follows a breakthrough spell with Danish club Fortuna Hjørring, where the striker established herself as one of the league’s most prolific forwards. She scored 22 goals in 24 league appearances during the 2024/25 season, playing a pivotal role as Fortuna secured a domestic league and cup double.
Her outstanding performances in Denmark attracted interest from across Europe, with BK Häcken ultimately securing her signature.
Speaking after completing the move, Omewa said her time in Denmark transformed her into a more complete striker, particularly with her movement and finishing inside the penalty area.
“I mainly developed my ability to score goals, especially positional play in the penalty area. I worked a lot on mastering how to be as efficient as possible inside the box,” she told the club’s official website.

The Nigerian international also revealed that choosing BK Häcken required little deliberation, describing the Swedish champions as the ideal environment to continue her development.
“I know that BK Häcken is a fantastic club that helps its talents develop. I feel that this is the right place for me.”
BK Häcken’s football director, Martin Ericsson, believes the Super Falcons forward possesses the qualities to thrive in Sweden’s topflight.
“Joy is a physically dominant player with a lot of power, but also a striker who is involved in the game and a killer in the box. Her instinct for scoring goals is clear and she is always looking for the next opportunity,” Ericsson said.

Omewa is currently in Morocco with Nigeria’s squad for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where the Super Falcons are chasing a record-extending 11th continental title.
Once her international duties are over, she will head to Sweden hoping to carry her goalscoring form into a new chapter with one of Scandinavia’s leading clubs.
